ABOUT ME

I first picked up the sticks at the age of six when my older brother was given a practice drum kit by a family friend. He taught me a basic rock beat and my drumming obsession began. I got my first real drum kit when I was 8 and spent the next few years honing my skills to the likes of AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Metallica and many others.

I joined my first band at the age of 17 and immediately fell in love with playing live. After 8 years of playing with various bands, touring and recording, I decided that I wanted to further my musical knowledge. In 2005, after 3 years at Jewel & Esk Valley College followed by 3 years at Napier University, I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Popular Music.

After university I got a job at my local drum shop - Drum Central - where I developed my technical knowledge of the drum kit and got to know many of my fellow Edinburgh based drummers. It was through working there that I realised a desire to teach.

My teaching career began in 2008 when I joined the Academy of Music and Sound (AMS) as drum tutor where I taught NC, HND & HND drum courses until 2018. Alongside teaching drum kit at AMS, I became course coordinator for the HND cohort and laterally I co-managed the centre for 2 years prior to leaving.

In 2018 I was delighted to join the City of Edinburgh Council Instrumental Music Service to teach drums and percussion in a number of Edinburgh high schools.

Alongside these jobs, since 2008, I have built a successful private drum tuition business - VINI BONNAR DRUMS -  with a weekly clientele of between 20-30 students.

I am passionate about teaching and helping my students achieve their goals. If you'd like more information on lessons, please contact me.
